Blog #7: Book 4 review
Dear Jase,
Sam here, I was thinking so many things from the last time we talked. First things first, when you found out that my best friend Nanny didn’t know about you I just didn’t know how she would take it. I wasn’t at all trying to keep you as a secret from her. I didn’t think she would understand, let alone my mom understanding that I’m dating you. The first time I said the “L” word I did mean it. Do you really think that I would say it if I didn’t mean it? Well I do love you Jase. To be honest I haven’t had this much fun being with someone who accepts me for who I am and understands me different from my best friend. What I’m saying is that I do like being with you. Second thing; the reason I didn’t tell my mother about you is because she would have thrown a fit and blown up on me. She wouldn’t understand what love is until it hit it on her head. She may think she feels it with Clay Tucker, which I doubt she is dating him, because apparently they are the adults here? I’m not for sure what’s going on with her and him lately. They seem to be acting like they are but it doesn’t seem like it since Nanny and I found him flirting with another woman. He says “she’s just a friend” but it doesn’t seem like she is, even though he may have a thing for my mom. The one thing that bothers me is my mother tries to drag me with her to all the press things for her campaigning. With Nanny ignoring me, everything hasn’t been the same. Tim isn’t himself, since he stopped drinking and doing drugs other than smoking; he isn’t him. All along with that pep talk we had at him at your dads work, there wasn’t a good outcome. Is there by any chance that fixing these problem would help us? If you aren’t training or working or fixing your car maybe we can. Everything is out of sorts and I wish things would go back to normal. Again, I’ve told you so many times but I don’t know if you will accept my apology no matter how many times I have said it I really am sorry. I didn’t know my mother did that. I fell asleep in the car and the next thing I know is that we hit something or someone but I had no clue it was your father. Is your family ever going to forgive me for this? Even though I didn’t do anything to your father and I had nothing to do with it. With what all I said to you that got Alice to hate me, I understand that but when that happens we need to talk about this. Every time I try and talk to you she is always there to push me away from trying to fix things between us. I know she is just trying to protect you. But once we do, can we please start over? I understand if you don’t but please at least talk to me about this. I didn’t mean what I said. Once we do, I know some things will go back to normal. Jase I need you I really do need you in my life. While trying to fix things with Nan it’s not going so well with her ignoring me still but I know once these things are fixed things will go back the way it’s supposed to be.
Yours Truly,
Samantha Reed

Why does Jocelyn Fray keep her life a big secret?
1.
A Better life
Without being in the other world,
she thought it would be safer to be in the human world where she thinks she
belongs. Taking Clary to get her mind erased and not remember at all of what
she is drawing and what’s happening wasn’t a smart idea. She knew either way
that she would find out. Instead of keeping this “better life” a secret she
should have told Clary. Clary thinks this all her imagination when in reality its
really happening. “Jocelyn grew up in Idris with Luke, Valentine, and the other
Circle members. She was married to Valentine at the age of 19, though she says
she married him because she loved him, she later realized that he was torturing
innocent people. She fled Idris when she found out she was pregnant with Clary,
so he could not do harm to her daughter like he did on Jonathan (Sebastian),
her first-born son.”
2.
Valentine
Even though Jocelyn was afraid of
Valentine, it didn’t and still doesn’t help running away from your problems. Protecting
Clary, yes a good idea. Instead of just running away from him she could have
done something by doing it herself. Nobody had to help her if they didn’t want
to but it would have been better if she tried stopping him alone or with
someone. “Years later, when City of Bones begins, Valentine finds Jocelyn and
wants her to reveal where the Mortal Cup is located. He kidnaps her, but is
unable to extract information from her due to her self-induced comatose state.
He eventually secures the Mortal Cup, and the Mortal Sword and goes to the
Mortal Mirror to summon the Angel Raziel. His arrogance, however, as well as
his torturing of the angel Ithuriel, Raziel's brother, causes the angel to slay
him.”
3.
Family
Even family or not it would be
better to tell things instead of secrets. Because Clary has no idea on what she
is doing until she finds out what has been happening. Not knowing where her
mother was really from and why Luke isn’t helping her. Joceyln risking her life
for her daughter is good but it shows that she needs to care more about others
than just herself. She may have gotten kidnapped and almost die she could have
still gotten some help. “Valentine is the former husband of Jocelyn Fairchild,
with whom he had two children (Clarissa "Clary" Adele Morgenstern and
Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern). Clarissa realizes that she is Valentine's
daughter in the first book, City of Bones, but being raised by Jocelyn her
whole life is void of Valentine's influence. His son however, was tutored by
him to be a very talented Shadowhunter and ruthless killer. He later becomes
Valentine's spy, taking the name Sebastian Verlac. Valentine also adopts Jace
Herondale as his son, training him as well as Jonathan, making him as skilled a
Shadowhunter as Jonathan.”
4.
Secrets
Although keeping secrets in a
family matter will be good to protect someone from getting hurt. For Jocelyn needed
to stop thinking about herself for once. She would have been less selfish and
more dependent on than just doing what she can. Like I know she can but she
should have fixed the problem at hand at first then run away.
5.
Fear
Being in fear isn’t as good as a shadow hunter. Jocelyn needed
to be more empathetic for what she was doing. Yeah she was trying to keep Clary
safe but hiding in fear isn’t always an option. Look where she ends up now. Almost
dead but still ends up alive.

A nonfiction book has to have ALL real facts. In my mind, if its all happened in your life but with a little exaggeration is okay. If there were things that didn't happen or that you wanted to happen but didn't then it isn't considered nonfiction or a biography.
If its a good story and its half true I honestly don't know. Just to me I'm picky on what should be in a book to consider a specific genre. like if it's fiction I think of so fantasy and non-normal human things in it or nonfiction I think of specific facts about something in particular.
Yes I think different types of things that happen should have labels like books and humans. like how do we know if one person is telling the truth and the other is lying? But that's a different story.
In Their eyes were watching god its a nonfiction book because it's what happened in a girls life. It shows what has happened and what lead her to be who she is to this day.

Blog Post #4:
The 5 most important decisions i would need to make as director in order to create a successful adaptation:
01) Q: What casting choices would you make in order to make it successful?
A: For the casting, i would make sure the person would have had good experience and know what they need to do in order to fulfill the role. They should know there strengths and weakness to know if they should audition for the role.
02) Q: What else is unique about your book that would be vital to capture?
A: Well, most of the book has important events, but i think it should capture more of the adventure that Bilbo and Gandolf go on while finding new friends that come along. Or saving the hobbits that get captured by the giants/ogors or something. Like it should capture all the action that goes on.
03) Q: Which scenes are essential to keep in order to not change the heart of the film?
A: Like i said in the last question, keep all the action that goes on. No one would understand what happens if you don't go from the beginning to the end. Maybe make a twist of an ending to catch people off guard and so it will get them wanting to read the book and to see the next film.
04) Q: What soundtrack decisions could help successfully recreate the themes of the book and reach its target audience?
A: I think that some music should be in to keep the thrill of the journey that's going on. But then when something is like about to pop out and make you jump, don't use the music. Because then it just gives away what's going to happen in the scene.
05) Q: Which type of adaptation makes the most sense-film, TV show, live musical?
A: A film, because some books would be too long or too short to make into a TV show and live musical. Pus with the acting in the film, it should make it much to actually understand what's going on and so it's not separated into more events. It would keep the flow of what's going on and how things will turn out for maybe the second movie or the end of this movie if it's the last movie of the series.
